Marcia M. Wollner
1925 - 2011
Marcia M. Wollner, artist, writer, social activist, beloved wife and mother died at home, the home she designed, April 2, 2011. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana as Beulah Chute, she changed her name to Marcia while attending high school in Alameda, CA and married Albert Wollner in November 1945. She worked during the 1950’s as a real estate agent out of a mixed race office, overcoming ethnic/racial restrictions then common in real estate contracts in the exclusive neighborhoods of Alameda County.
A lover of dogs, she bred and showed dachshunds and basenji hounds. Her kennels of Teckle Town Dachshunds and Congolese Basenjis produced dogs that won many prizes and AKC championships. Marcia was also an exceptional artist in stoneware ceramics, fused and blown glass, collage and mixed media. Her Mar Wol Studio produced uniquely beautiful
coffee tables, bas reliefs and whimsical art pieces from 1960 to 1976. She made owl and dragon whistles through the last years of her life.
Marcia and Al moved to Ramona in 1976 where they built their own house, then became instrumental in forming Etz Chaim, the Reform Jewish congregation in Ramona. Al was Cantor
for the congregation for 34 years and is now Cantor Emeritus.
Marcia is survived by her beloved husband of 96 years, her son, Shaun, and daughter, Tziva Juliana.
